Redesign of Spike McCaulkey from “THE OTHER TOWN” from October of 2024. Still not a final design (I mean, we’ll never have a “final design” until the show actually (somehow) gets made, and so long as I’m still, uh, living, I’ll prob feel the urge to do a little redesigning now and then on my own time anyway), but I wanted (and still want) to move away from the smaller, toonier proportions of earlier OTHER TOWN art in favor of something a little more “lanky” and realistic. This idea definitely gets closer to the mark, but it’s not quite there yet. I want to push the quality of the line work on her clothes a little more, so there’s more of a sense of believable weight and wear.
What I want to go for ultimately (right now) is character art like Satoru Noda’s in Golden Kamuy; observational realism on costumes, bodies, and props with super stylized and expressive faces. I mean, that’s kind of what most anime is like anyway, or how most anime starts off, but there’s definitely a specific balance (or imbalance) that I wanna hit here.
